In short: only post what you have the rights to. If you think something on sov.gg infringes your copyright or trademark, tell us using the details below. We act quickly, tell the profile owner, and let them respond.

1. Our approach

We respect the rights of creators and expect everyone on sov.gg to do the same. Profiles may only use music, images, video, logos, fonts and text that their owners made, have a licence for, or are otherwise allowed by law to use. This policy is part of our Terms.

2. Reporting infringement

Use the report form, choosing "Copyright or trademark", or email legal@sov.gg. To let us act, your notice needs:

  1. your name and contact details, and whether you're the rights holder or act for them;
  2. the work you say is infringed (for example a link to the original, or a description of it);
  3. exactly where it is on sov.gg: the profile's address, and which part of it;
  4. why you believe it infringes;
  5. a statement that you believe in good faith that the use isn't authorised by the rights holder, their agent or the law;
  6. a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and that you're the rights holder or authorised to act for them (under US law, this statement is made under penalty of perjury);
  7. your signature; typing your full name is enough.

Notices that are missing something may take longer, because we may need to ask you for it.

3. What happens next

  • We confirm we've received your notice and review it promptly.
  • If you email your notice to legal@sov.gg with a link to the profile, the profile is hidden straight away while we review it. A person then decides.
  • If it's valid, we remove the content or disable access to it.
  • We tell the profile owner what we removed and why, and send them the notice. We may remove your personal contact details from the copy unless the law requires us to share them, or the owner needs them to respond to a court claim.
  • We tell you what we decided.

4. If your content was removed

If you believe it was removed by mistake, or you have the rights to use it, write to legal@sov.gg or reply to our message, explaining why, with:

  • the content that was removed and where it was;
  • why you believe it was removed by mistake or misidentified;
  • your name, address, email and signature.

If you're in the US (DMCA counter-notice): also include a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith the content was removed by mistake or misidentification, and that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if you live outside the US, any judicial district in which we may be found), and will accept service of process from the person who sent the notice.

We pass your response to the person who sent the notice. Unless they tell us within 10 to 14 business days that they've started court proceedings, we may restore the content.

You can also appeal any decision as described in section 8 of our Terms.

5. Repeat infringers

We close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe others' rights.

6. False notices

Sending a notice you know to be false, or misusing this process to silence someone, may make you liable for damages. We may ignore notices from people who repeatedly send unfounded ones.

7. Trademarks

The same process applies to trademarks. We may change a username, or remove content, that infringes a trademark or misleads people about who is behind a profile.
